Q + A

DO I NEED A VISA?

For stays of up to 90 days for tourism, a visa is not required for U.S. citizens. Your U.S. passport should be valid for at least three months beyond your intended stay in Honduras. If you are a citizen of another country, please contact your local Embassy or Consulate to verify requirements.

NOTE TO ALL TRAVELERS

ALL TRAVELERS will need to fill the following form prior to entering the country. Note in Spanish dates are formatted: DAY-MONTH-YEAR. https://sisglobal.aduanas.gob.hn/Pech/#/plataforma/otra_gestiones/formularioDJRV Once you finish completing this form, you will receive a QR Code that you can save as a picture and show the Customs Agent in the airport. You can fill this form closer to your travel day.

TRAVELING WITH MINORS

Under Honduran law, children traveling unaccompanied or with only one parent must have written, notarized permission to travel from the non-traveling parent(s).

U.S. EMBASSY

It is recommended that you make a copy of your passport and email it to yourself. In the case you lose you passport while visiting Honduras, it can be replaced at the Embassy. The US Embassy is located in Avenida La Paz, Tegucigalpa. Tel: (504) 2236-9320 https://hn.usembassy.gov/contact/#embassy You can also contact Eduardo (Ponche), one of your Wedding Ambassadors, if you need any help.

CELLPHONE SERVICE

Before traveling, contact your current carrier to inquire about international roaming options and charges. Some cellphone carriers have reciprocity with a Honduran cellphone carrier such as T-Mobile. If your cellphone carrier does not have reciprocity you may want to consider purchasing a local SIM card.

CURRENCY

The lempira (lemˈpiɾa) is the currency of Honduras. Named after Lempira, a warrior and chieftain of the Lencas (indegenous tribe) during the 1530s. Lenca people still exist in the Southwestern part of Central America, (Honduras and El Salvador.) It is believed that his real name was Erandique, but he was recognized in the original language of his people as Lempira, that, in Lenca language, 'Lempa' means Lord and 'era' means mountain. So his name means Lord of the Mountain.

EXCHANGE RATE

As of March 13, 2025: $1.00 = L. 25.57

CREDIT CARD vs. CASH

You can exchange dollars into lempiras in many US airports. Sometimes best exchange rates come from your Bank and/or Credit Union. You will need to let them know in advance so they can request lempiras for you. Palmerola Int'l Airport has an exchange rate office. Many establishments take credit cards. Alert your credit cards and financial institutions that you will be traveling internationally and let them know your destination. This prevents any card cancellations by your bank after making an unexpected purchase far from home. Also, inquire about details on fees and charges made abroad. Craft fairs, farmers market and smaller establishments may only take cash.

WhatsApp

This is not an advertising for WhatsApp, but if you don't have the App it is strongly recommended you do. WhatsApp provides you with free international calls and messaging as well ad video calls. Also your Wedding Ambassadors are WhatApp fans and will be the best way to communicate with them.
